So Carly and I have been working really hard for the past few days, and we’ve decided that we need to document our projects AND our farm outfits.
Besides our acute fashion sense here on the farm, we also take pride in our farming abilities. For example, we’ve planted 200 ft of lettuce, 1200 broccoli and cauliflower plants, 300 ft of early tomatoes, and 2100 onion plants (that was an intense one). We can finish two 100 ft beds (from fertilizing/composting to laying out transplants to actual planting) in an hour and a half. Talk about freaking teamwork!
We also built a hoop house. Behold:
Here’s Carly driving the farm truck:
Which we used to haul 3 loads of brush to the fire pile:
Like I said, we’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished around here. And despite all the hard work we do during the day, we still take the time to cook delicious food. Recent meals:
- Breakfast smoothies made in the Magic Bullet: banana, frozen berries, spinach, yogurt, 1 Tbsp of peanut butter. Yum.
- Barbecue Chicken. From scratch. Carly taught me how to Eight Cut a chicken and make homemade barbecue sauce.
- Millet Salad: millet, quinoa, red onion, pepitas (aka pumpkin seeds), corn, fresh herbs (from greenhouse), roasted butternut squash, olive oil, raw apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper
- Dandelion Fritters
Only one week left in Abingdon. I’m gonna get a load of food from the farmer’s market this weekend to bring home. Any requests?
Peace and Love
