A Letter to 2212

I’d like to share a link (for those of you who don’t use Facebook.) Special thanks to Mom who found the link. I had forgotten all about this project.

An explanation: Last Spring I did an artist’s residency at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology on the Oregon Coast. I can’t speak highly enough of the Sitka Center and staff. They took such good care of us, and I really felt at home. They’ve started a new program called “Reflections.” They plan to collect essays from their residents for the next 200 years, creating a huge record of artists/writers/musicians reflections of that specific place.

The link below is my contribution to the project. It describes my experience in Oregon and why I began the “Houses in the Woods” series:

  1. Quite poetic, Amanda….Not only that, of course, as it gives your paintings “personality” and a clear understanding and vision to the viewer exactly what you were feeling…..And your last paragraph sums it up so well….What you’ve captured won’t last….But your vision will…..
    Brilliant!
    Love,
    Sylvia
