I don’t know if this is historically accurate, but it’s a good anecdote all the same.
When I was in college, one of my anthropologist friends told me that the Inca would run up hills (a.k.a. the Andes Mountains), because it had the effect of keeping the spirits up. AND, the unpleasantness of the uphill climb was over much quicker than if you slowly dragged yourself along.
This is brilliant.
Let’s run up the (metaphorical) uphill battles of our lives. Get the heart pumping and the spirit up. And then savor the downhill parts.
And what about the plateaus?
We’ll skip joyfully on those.
